考文垂大学最知名的领域是设计，如工业设计、生产设计。其中交通工具设计，学生会学习如何设计车、船、自行车、火车、飞机。除此之外，考文垂大学其他的知名领域有艺术设计，如媒体、制片、剧场表演。艺术设计在考文垂大学有150年的历史了，最初的起点是1843年，那是考文垂大学还只有艺术设计。

　　另外一个很著名的是考文垂大学的工程和计算机学院。考文垂大学刚建成一个全新的、耗资6000万英镑的设施，该设施在2012年9月为学生开放。
