乔纳森•斯威夫特的《格列夫游记》里,有这样的句子出现:

-- Soon after I 19heard a general shout, with frequent repetitions of the words Peplom selan; and I felt great numbers of people on my left side relaxing the cords to such a degree, that I was able to turn upon my right, and to ease myself with making water; which I very plentifully did, to the great astonish-ment of the people; who, conjecturing by my motion what I was going to do, immediately opened to the right and left on that side, to avoid the torrent, which fell with such noise and violence from me.

-- I therefore let go the cord, and leaving the looks fixed to the ships, I resolutely cut with my knife the cables that fastened the anchors, receiving about two hun-dred shots in my face and hands; then I took up the knotted end of the cables, to which my hooks were tied, and with great ease drew fifty of the enemy's largest men of war -after me.

-- There could not be few-er than thirty persons with their wives and children (for the country is very populous;) and my master demanded the rate of a full room whenever he showed me at home, al-though it were only to a single family; so that for some time I had but little ease every day of the week (except Wednes-day, which is their Sabbath,) although I were not carried to the town.

-- Among these the ladies choose their gallants: but the vexation is, that they act with too much ease and security; for the husband is always so rapt in speculation, that the mistress and lover may proceed to the greatest familiarities before his face, if he be but pro-vided with paper and implements, and without his flapper at his side.

-- By all which, instead of being discouraged, they are fifty times more violently bent upon prosecuting their schemes, driven equally on by hope and despair: that as for himself, being not of an enterpris-ing spirit, he was content to go on in the old forms, to live in the houses his ancestors had built, and act as they did, in every part of life, without innovation: that some few other persons of quality and gentry had done the same, but were looked on with an eye of contempt and ill-will, as enemies to art, ignorant, and ill common-wealth's men, preferring their own ease and sloth before the general improvement of their country.'

查尔斯·狄更斯的《艰难时世》里,有这样的句子出现:

-- Handle them never so lightly, and they fell to pieces with such ease that you might suspect them of having been flawed before.

-- He was at his ease in the narrow 'great world', that is, landed aristocracy society, but he was shy and ner-vous of all that other big world which consists of the vast hordes of the middle and lower classes, and foreigners.

-- He was silent and he rowed with a strength and ease as if he were alone on the water.

-- He said he'd rather I kept my money, as I'd no occasion to ease my con-science.

-- Something flowed out of him physically, that made her feel inwardly at ease and happy, at home.

查尔斯·狄更斯的《小杜丽》里,有这样的句子出现:

-- The little man sat down again upon the pavement with the negligent ease of one who was thoroughly accustomed to pavements; and placing three hunks of coarse bread before himself, and falling to upon a fourth, began contentedly to work his way through them as if to clear them off were a sort of game.

-- His experience on the lock gave him such an acute perception of the enormous difficulty of 'tying up' money with any approach to tightness, and contrariwise of the remarkable ease with which it got loose, that through a series of years he regularly propounded this knotty point to every new insolvent agent and other professional gentleman who passed in and out.

-- Other motes there were which showed him as a heavy, selfish, drifting Booby, who, having stumbled, in the course of his unwieldy jostlings against other men, on the discovery that to get through life with ease and credit, he had but to hold his tongue, keep the bald part of his head well polished, and leave his hair alone, had had just cunning enough to seize the idea and stick to it.

-- Her next surprise was to find him equally at his ease within the prison; to hear of his presenting himself among the visitors at her father's Sunday levee; to see him arm in arm with a Collegiate friend about the yard; to learn, from Fame, that he had greatly distinguished himself one evening at the social club that held its meetings in the Snuggery, by addressing a speech to the members of the institution, singing a song, and treating the company to five gallons of ale report madly added a bushel of shrimps.

-- See!I lie down now, to ease my head.

-- Meg knew Sallie and was at her ease very soon, but Jo, who didn't care much for girls or girlish gossip, stood about, with her back carefully against the wall, and felt as much out of place as a colt in a flower garden.

-- That put Jo at her ease and she laughed too, as she said, in her heartiest way, 'We did have such a good time over your nice Christmas present.'

-- She found it harder to bear than the others because she could remember a time when home was beautiful, life full of ease and pleasure, and want of any kind unknown.

-- asked Meg, full of curiosity to know his opinion of her, yet feeling ill at ease with him for the first time.

-- She had her doubts about it from the begin-ning, for her lively fancy and girlish romance felt as ill at ease in the new style as she would have done masquerad-ing in the stiff and cumbrous costume of the last century.
